Sending letters in the mail is now quite the novelty. I don’t know about you but I love receiving cards and little notes in the mail. It makes one feel extra special and very loved when someone takes the effort to hand write a sentiment and pay the postage to have you receive it via the postal service. What better time of year to send someone a little love note than on Valentines Day. Krista of Prive Events and I thought the romantic notion of the handwritten mailed valentine would be the perfect inspiration for our sweet Valentines Day inspired love shoot. Meg and Ben, a real life newlywed couple, were the best models anyone could ask for. Sweet as can be, comfortable in front of the camera and very much in love.
The ladies at Style Me Pretty were gracious enough to feature our sweet Valentines Day shoot this morning on their main page which is such a thrill and a testament to all the hard work from the amazing vendors that helped bring this shoot together. A big thank you to Krista and Megan of Prive Events, Molly of En Fleur, Kara of The Sweet Side, Sally of La Happy, Meg and Ben our amazing models, Hellen Tribble who did hair and makeup, and of course to Style Me Pretty for the feature. Check out the feature and full gallery here.
I hope this photoshoot inspires all of you to write and mail a little love note to someone special. Happy Valentines Day!

The best part about my job….meeting fun and fabulous couples and being able to show them with a photograph how palpable, lovely and contagious the love they share really is. From the second I met Annie and Norm I knew they were going to be fun. Both are totally comfortable in their own skin, up for anything and it is completely and totally obvious that they are soooo in love. I adore a couple that has no reservations about passionately kissing in the middle of what is most likely the most public place in Seattle. Normally I have to tell couples to try to hold their kiss a little longer so I can have a chance to snap a few shots….Let’s just say Norm and Annie didn’t need to be told;) By the end of our shoot the rain started falling so I sent them out in the middle of the street and Norm knew just what to do….
I’m so looking forward to their August wedding and another chance to document the love these two share.

A few days before Christmas I was able to be part of something very special. A surprise engagement of a dear friend! The funny thing is that it was a surprise to me as well! My friend Melanie Duerkopp (who is a photographer in San Francisco) comes home to Seattle for the holidays every year to see her family and her Grandmother who flies in from Germany. Melanie and I are longtime friends from college and we have made it a tradition that I take a big family portrait of her entire family every December. The last few years she has brought along her boyfriend Chris to join in the fun. This year we shot at the Sculpture Garden on the waterfront of downtown Seattle. I always pull each couple aside to get a few shots of just them during our session. So while waiting for Grandma to make it up the hill I pulled Melanie and Chris aside for a few quick photos. Well, what was a quick sweet moment all of a sudden became very serious when Chris got down on one knee and pulled out a ring!!! The whole family erupted in cheers and her parents, who knew this was going to happen, had champagne waiting back at the car for a toast. Needless to say it was an incredible morning and the pure joy on Melanie and Chris’s face is just contagious! I couldn’t be happier for my dear friend, congratulations Chris and Melanie!

How adorable is Melanie’s Grandmother….she is always so much fun!!!

This past fall I scored the best gig ever…. photographing The Sweet Side’s 2014 cake collection….I happen to LOVE cake especially when they look and taste as good as Kara’s cakes. When I finished the shoot I was so darn excited I couldn’t contain it! I immediately sent over some sneak peek shots to Style Me Pretty and they loved it just as much as I did. They graciously decided to feature it on their Living, Little Black Book, and Northwest Regional blogs. They also decided to interview Kara about how she started her Bakery and she even shared a recipe for her super yummy meringue cookies. Her collection will speak to so many types of brides. She covers the traditional, glamorous, and classic esthetic beautifully all while pushing the boundaries and introducing new and inspiring designs. Seattle Brides-Kara should be your go to gal for all things cakes and sweet bars!

This past November I had the great pleasure of attending a fabulous 30th birthday party for my dear friend Kara Burfeind. She held her dinner party at The Goodwin Library which is located in Pike Place Market and overlooks the iconic sign and market below. Kara used Rachel the pig, who is the unofficial mascot of the market, as inspiration for her favor boxes that contained two beautiful macaroons made by The Sweet Side of course;) She also made her stunning cake that was chocolate and coconut…..so yummy! It was a beautiful party to celebrate a beautiful person! Welcome to the 30 club Kara!
