Last fall I had a wonderful opportunity to work with Wedding Paper Divas to put together a styled photoshoot. Bonus was I would get to use their amazing paper products to help enhance the theme! I decided to photograph my dear friends and real life couple Brandon and Tyler. I wanted to do an engagement session and an engagement party and use vendors who I love and some whom I hadn't had the chance to work with yet. I chose one of Wedding Paper Diva's modern laser cut designs for...

Fellow photographer Jamie Delaine and her husband Randy are the founders of The School Sessions: a one-day event across the globe on Sunday, April 12, 2015 to raise $200,000 to build a school in Haiti. They reached out to me asking if I'd like to be involved and of course I jumped at the chance! Jamie and Randy's belief that business needs to be about more than just making money, that we should use our platforms to give back and encourage others in our industry to do the same really...

Oh man, where do I even start! Precious Georgia Lynn was born October 24th to my dear friends Kara and Mark Burfeind. They had decided to wait to find out the sex of their child until the delivery day and we were all convinced she was going to have a boy. Instead the most perfect baby girl came into this world and I for one am completely and totally smitten! Two weeks after Georgia was born Kara asked if I would take just a few photos of her. She was...

Sending letters in the mail is now quite the novelty. I don't know about you but I love receiving cards and little notes in the mail. It makes one feel extra special and very loved when someone takes the effort to hand write a sentiment and pay the postage to have you receive it via the postal service.  What better time of year to send someone a little love note than on Valentines Day. Krista of Prive Events and I thought the romantic notion of the handwritten mailed valentine would...

A few days before Christmas I was able to be part of something very special. A surprise engagement of a dear friend! The funny thing is that it was a surprise to me as well! My friend Melanie Duerkopp (who is a photographer in San Francisco) comes home to Seattle for the holidays every year to see her family and her Grandmother who flies in from Germany. Melanie and I are longtime friends from college and we have made it a tradition that I take a big family portrait of...

This past November I had the great pleasure of attending a fabulous 30th birthday party for my dear friend Kara Burfeind. She held her dinner party at The Goodwin Library which is located in Pike Place Market and overlooks the iconic sign and market below. Kara used Rachel the pig, who is the unofficial mascot of the market, as inspiration for her favor boxes that contained two beautiful macaroons made by The Sweet Side of course;) She also made her stunning cake that was chocolate and coconut…..so yummy! It was...

When I reflect back on this year I am humbly reminded that I am surrounded by incredibly talented and passionate people. These people inspire me in ways I can't express, and I'm extremely thankful they are part of my life. From supportive friends and family, risk takers in business and those who encourage and validate me in my creative pursuits. All of whom have had a huge effect on me this year, personally and professionally.  It has been a transformative year for Katie Parra Photography and I'm excited to see...
